Sister Belva Driscoll did a wonderful job today putting together a Christmas program and several musical numbers. I love one of her comments. She said, "I appreciate them (meaning those asked to participate in today's program) so much. When I asked them to take part in the program, they told me "yes" even though their eyes told me "no"." RELIEF SOCIETY - Good News Minutes
* Bonnie Barrett was accepted into the college of her choice, Oklahoma University.
* Orla Beth Peck was in Washington, D.C. on December 16th and was able to tour the White House, which was decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations.
* Tara Hansen said, "I got to talk to the cutest missionary in the whole world yesterday." Her son only has three more months on his mission....

- Tithing Settlement will be today, next Sunday and Tuesday (Dec. 28th). There won't be any tithing settlement on Sunday, December 26th.
- Karalee Olsen is putting together a Sub-for-Santa for four families. All items are to be turned in by next Sunday (unwrapped). All the things she has requested be donated, someone has signed up for. Therefore, if you didn't get a chance to participate and would like to, please donate any cash amount to her and it will be used to purchase a fruit basket and ham for each family.

We, as a relief society presidency, echo the words of the prophets and remind you, if you desire to find the true spirit of Christmas during the rush of the season; “find time to turn your heart to God. Perhaps in the quiet hours, and in a quiet place, and on your knees—alone or with loved ones—give thanks for the good things that have come to you and ask that His Spirit might dwell in you as you earnestly strive to serve Him and keep His commandments. He will take you by the hand and His promises will be kept.”
We love you all and wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas!

Sister Spotlight - Teri Hanks
I have contemplated what I might say about myself for weeks, but the story doesn’t seem to get any better with time. I was born in Nampa, Idaho and was raised on a dairy farm. I am the third child in a family of seven children. I was blessed with four sisters and two brothers. I love being part of a huge family and my sisters are some of my closest friends.
I graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Health Science and then moved to the big city to start my first professional job at the University of Utah Hospital. A really cute guy followed me to the city and we were married a year later. I’m not quite sure how two farm kids ended up moving and staying in Salt Lake City.
I have worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years and currently am employed by Promise Healthcare. I work with physicians trying to teach them how to document correctly and read hundreds and hundreds of medical records. I truly enjoy my position, but it is only second to my main and preferred job of being a mother. I have 4 incredible children and can’t imagine what my life would be like without any of them. Nate just returned from serving a mission in the Philippines. Trevor is preparing to leave to serve in the Honolulu Hawaii mission in February. Weston is a sophomore at Murray High who loves to golf and fight with his sister (I’m not sure which one he enjoys more). And finally…we had a darling little girl Addie. She loves to sing, organize things, and most of all, shop with her mom. Our family life is very busy and we probably hold the Ward’s record for the most fractures in one family (children only)… 14!!! Never a dull moment at the Hanks’ house. I have been very blessed to have many of the sisters in the Relief Society as my dear friends. Many of you have served my family over the years. I truly feel loved in this ward.
Ward Christmas Party / Talent Show
Tonight was our Ward Christmas Party and it was a lot of fun. We all enjoyed a yummy dinner and good conversation....followed by a talent show. Here are some pictures from the evening....

5400 South Flex Lanes
This information is more of an FYI, but thought it would be helpful to pass along....
KSL writes, "Help is on the way for commuters on a congested east-west artery in Salt Lake County, but they'll have to wait longer than originally planned.
"I think anyone who's driven this road during rush hour would agree this is a very problematic stretch," says Justin Kable, a UDOT field engineer.
UDOT traffic numbers prove that point. During peak travel times in the morning and evening, it can take 14 minutes to travel that two-mile segment of 5400 South, during off-peak traffic: six minutes.
Flex Lanes handle heavy traffic by alternating the direction of the lanes during peak hours. In the morning, motorists get four lanes headed east and two lanes headed west. In the evening, it's the opposite configuration. Off peak, traffic flow remains the way it is today.
The work delays mean motorists will have to wait until spring, but there should be a long-term benefit.
"In the meantime, we were able to utilize the latest technology to control the Flex Lane system," Kable says. "We feel it's going to be a benefit to the community."
A lot of the electronics work is ongoing off-site. All of the new turn signal arms are ready to go. Three of the gantries near Redwood Road are ready for the directional electronic signs. The remaining 14 will go up quickly when the electronics are ready.
At $5 million the project is more economical than heavy construction options. Phoenix and Washington, D.C., already use reversible lanes, and you'll find flex lanes in other countries too. UDOT says disruption to traffic should be minimal for the remainder of the project."

Relief Society Christmas Dinner
We had a wonderful evening tonight at our Christmas dinner. I am the worst at taking pictures, but here are a few of our evening together. If it weren't for Alana Terry, I would have forgot to take any pictures at all.
