Sister Spotlight - Rashika

I'm Amol Rashika Raju, I go by Rashika. I was born in the beautiful friendly Island called Fiji. My Parents are convert to church. I was nourished in Gospel from my childhood. I served mission in Fiji Suva Mission. I did my Undergraduate in BYUH and my Masters in Uni of Utah and Stevens Henager College. Currently I'm doing my internship on Oracle Software Solutions in Finance. I come from a family of five. I'm the 2nd child in my family. I have an elder brother and a younger sister. My role model is my Mother. Her teachings, nourishment and examples inspires me and will continue to inspire me for life and eternity. I value family, gospel,career,education, knowledge and wisdom. I enjoy music, cooking,dancing,beauty tips, nature (gardening) and I love to attend temple. my mormon.org link is here.

Missionary Moment

Kris, Mason's mom, writes, "Mason has had the most amazing life changing experiences in Madison, Wisconsin! He truly is so happy and loves what he is doing. He has mentioned more than once that he loves serving God and loves being there and making a difference.

One experience that stands out: He met a member (John 35, 280 pounds and had children) that had been in a coma for 6 months and was working on quitting smoking and drinking. John had told Mason how his boss bullied him in various ways every day at work.

He did things like flipping him with a wet towel and making him bleed.  Mason said, “I was so angry I just wanted to kill that boss. But instead I decided to turn it over to the Lords hands. I prayed that night with all my might, mind and heart that John would be loved and respected at work and that, his boss would no longer be a burden to such a sweet man with such a big heart.  The next time we met with John he said his boss was really nice to him and he was really surprised, his boss even shook his hand which he had never done before! Prayers are answered and heavenly father does care about all of his children.”  Mason also added, “One of my greatest regrets are the times in school I bullied those around me. (Mom, I can see you as you read this, thinking to all the times you called me a bully haha)  Its really hit so hard there’s no excuse to ever bully someone. At that time in my life when I reverted to bullying someone or even tearing them down, (doesn't matter who it was) I was truly so miserable in my own skin and with who I was I had to take it out on others to make myself feel better. Never again.”

This is just one example of a personal life lesson Mase has learned.  I cried a lot in the beginning because I missed him but now my tears every Monday are tears of joy for a young man that has sacrificed so much, learned so much in such a short time, tears of joy for him choosing this path to serve God and know deep in his heart that what he is doing is making a difference in other people’s lives – I am beyond words of gratitude, blessings and just pure love for my son, family and friends that surround us and all the blessings that we have experienced.

One member, Cindy, called one night after Mason had left (they have been teaching members lessons) and let us know what a kind young man he is and the awesome lessons he was teaching. She had so many nice things to say about him. She said her son was serving a mission in Idaho and a member had called her so she wanted to pass it on.. I am so grateful she called me (although at first my heart did skip a beat because I wasn’t sure why she was calling and thought it was bad news)."

Stake Women's Preparedness Camp

We are so excited to announce that we will be having a Stake Relief Society activity in September.

It is a "Stake Women's Preparedness Camp" to be held at the Stake Bowery, Saturday, September 8th. 10a.m. - 1:00 pm.m.

The classes will be from 10:00a.m. - 12 noon.  If there are sisters who cannot make it for the classes but would like to drop by for lunch we are planning on a potluck picnic lunch starting at noon.

We will have classes on topics to help the sisters be better prepared for emergency situations. We will have classes like . . . cooking without electricity, car repair and getting our legal paperwork organized.

-          We will be doing a car 72-hr kit with the cost of $5 for items to make the kit and they will need to bring the $5 to pay for it that day--if they don't pay for it then they can get the list of items to put it together at home. 

-          We will have a class on emergency sanitation and will have some kind of kit available that day. (The cost has not yet been determined on this kit.)

-          We will also be doing #10 can cook stoves. If anyone has some they could donate please let us know. 

-          If possible, please bring a salad to feed 8-10 people for the potluck picnic.

Missionary Moment

"Troy has been doing so great on his mission! He has been blessed to have several baptisms in the last few months...three in one week in June and 3 in one week in July!  He is so excited about his baptism's. The pictures he sends truely reflect happiness on the faces of the converts and the missionaries!  He was thrilled when 2 of them received the priesthood as well in July. He says he loves the tacos there and since the rainy season started, he may need a new pair of shoes soon. :)
He has a great attitude and says time is just flying by.

The following is from a recent July e-mail from Troy: "I learn new things everyday. I read so much on the gospel to better explain it to people and answer their questions that they have, and do it spanish too. By the time im in the house at nine and planning-time comes, i just want to go to bed im so tired, but I don’t.  I read more and finish up and go to bed by 10. I do love my mission --but its a lot of work 24/7-- but i love it. There hasnt been a moment were i haven`t enjoyed it! "

We love Troy and are so grateful for this time and opportunity he has to serve the Lord and take the gospel to the people of Mexico.

Sister Spotlight - Leigh Gubler

I grew up in Mesquite, NV. I'm the youngest of six kids, who had a set of fabulous parents! I've always had a really close relationship with my parents and still consider them to be some of my best friends!

I am a Massage Therapist and Master Esthetician. I met my husband while studying esthetics (skin care) in 2006, in St. George, UT. We dated until we both separately decided and then served missions. He served in Alaska and I served in Independence Missouri with a special assignment to serve at the Visitors' Center. I returned to my studies in esthetics, after the mission, in 2009 and became a Laser Hair Removal Technician and a Master Esthetics Instructor. Chad returned home and we were married in the St. George Temple, 7 1/2 months later. I worked as a laser hair removal tech. and taught esthetics our first year of marriage, until we had our baby girl, Janessa.

Since moving to northern Utah, about a year ago now, Chad has been working as a Pharmacy Technician in Sandy, and going to school, studying Pre-Pharmacy. We've been blessed to have me stay home with Janessa most of the time. I work only about 5-10 days a month, as a sales rep for different vendors that have roadshows in the nearby Costco warehouses. Easy peasy! I still love doing massage, facials, waxing and lash extensions, so I do treatments out of our home upon request, for family, friends and referrals. Feel free to call!

I love to travel and see new places. One thing on my "Bucket List" is to visit all 50 states! I love photography, but still don't know how to work my DSLR camera! And, I'm amazed at everything homemade! I've recently been obsessed with all my "recipes to try" pins on my pinterest.com pin board and have really put my KitchenAid and bread machine to work! I'm still such a novice in the kitchen and need all the help I can get! One day, (sooner than later) I hope to become domestic and learn to sew, learn to crochet or knit and learn the art of canning and making jam! Feel free to share your talents and wisdom with me! Let's get together!

Chad and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary in September. We're happy with life and where it's taken us. It's been neat to see the Lord's hand in our lives, the confidence He has in us and the love He has for us!!
