Special Stake Conference
We have been informed that our Stake will be holding a special Stake Conference on October 25th, 2015 at 10:00 am at our Stake Center. This is not a regularly scheduled Stake Conference. Elder Jeffery R. Holland will be presiding and speaking. We have been instructed not to hold any other meetings that day. This is a wonderful opportunity and we hope everyone will be able to attend.

October Presidency Message
Dear Sisters,
We have been in the Relief Society Presidency for a little over two months now and you probably have noticed some changes. Some of you are wondering why we are sitting in front. We want you to know that it was not our idea. We were asked to sit in front by our stake leaders. We were told that we are to preside over our meeting. We wanted to know more on presiding and found a talk given by President Boyd K. Packer titled,Principles of Leadership (Teachers Manual Religion 180R Conducting Successful Meetings…). We would like to quote some things he said: “Paul told the Corinthians that “all things” were to be done “decently and in order” (see 1 Cor 14:40; emphasis added).”
President Packer: “I will be speaking about what I call the unwritten order of things. My lesson might be entitled “The ordinary things about the church which every member should know.” Although they are very ordinary things, they are nevertheless, very important. I give my first illustration of this unwritten order of things so simple a thing as this: The one who presides in a meeting should sit on the stand and sit close to the one conducting. It is a bit difficult to preside over a meeting from the congregation. The one who presides is responsible for the conduct of the meeting and has the right and the responsibility to receive inspiration and may be prompted to adjust or correct something that goes on in the meeting. That is true whether it be an auxiliary meeting presided by the sisters or any of our meetings.”
As uncomfortable as we feel sitting in the front, we have seen the wisdom in it. We were told by our stake leaders we would be inspired. As we look into your beautiful faces on Sundays, we have been blessed with wisdom and have been inspired. We call it revelation.
So Sisters, let’s work in harmony, goodwill, peace, concord and mutual understanding. Let’s move forward in unity and love.
With Love,
The Morningside Relief Society Presidency

Pictures
Thanks to all of you who participated in the visiting teaching video. We didn’t have much time to put it together and that didn’t give you much time to get the pictures to us.
In the spirit of visiting teaching, we would like to continue collecting photos to share. They are so fun to see. These can be pictures of sister companions, or with the sisters that they visit, performing service or just having a laugh during a visit. Please send your photos to rsmorningside@gmail.com.
Any photos provided will likely "go down in history" since they will be shared with our ward historian, Bobbie Ingram!

Update on Service Auction
Hi this is in regards to the Relief Society Birthday SERVICE Auction. We
just want to reiterate and clarify that this is strictly for SERVICE
items to be donated. Our ward youth have an auction every year and that
is a way for them to earn money for their programs throughout the year.
We do NOT want to take away from that. So please make sure that you are
donating a SERVICE that a Sister can bid on. This is all for fun for a
great night to gather as Sisters, and we are trying to uphold to the
values of Service that our Relief Society Organization believes in.
We will be bidding on various SERVICE items throughout the night
that are donated. It will be a point system for bidding. You will add up
your points during dinner and then bid with points on items. There will
be no money exchanged or taken that night. Please save those types of
items for the Youth auction in April!!
This will be a fun fun event to celebrate our Relief Society and what better way than by serving one another.

Emma's Basket
Hi Sisters - As many of you know we have been collecting items for Emma's
basket for charity for the past several years. This year we have a new
charity we want to introduce you to. It is called Helping Kids With
Cancer (HKWC) they are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity with a mission to assist with critical needs for kids and their families.
Each
month as a Relief Society we will be collecting an item to place in a
stocking. We have attached that at the bottom. For February we will be
collecting a coloring book with crayons of some sort Ages 2-11. Keep in
mind these have to be able to fit in a standard Christmas stocking. These items are no more than $5! You
can also donate a stocking, they can be store bought or made. They
judge the stockings and do prizes for winners it’s a lot of fun! ALL items must be NEW! The last day for items to turn in is going to be Sunday, November 29th All items per month are for a BOY or a GIRL either is fine.
March is going to be a story book of some sort that they can read Ages 0-11.
Every
year this charity makes Christmas special for kids going through
something terrible in their lives. This charity helps families with the
help of Social Workers from Primary Children's Hospital deliver
stockings to children who are suffering from cancer. They also help
families with gas cards, and overnight bags when in need. We have
attached what the charity is about and how we can help. There is also a
video that you can view from the stocking delivery in 2014. The first
part of the video shows the event night where they raise more money for
the charity and viewing of the stockings, and then you will see the
delivery of stockings to the kids.

Lesson Preparation
This year we are encouraging each sister to read the lesson
prior to Relief Society on Sunday. There are bookmarks available to help you
follow along with our study of President Benson on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays and
the teaching of our times lessons on the 4th Sunday. We will also be sending
out an email each week to remind you of the reading material and to inform you
of the reading material for the 1st Sunday. If you have not yet received a
bookmark, please see Julie Henricksen.
The Relief Society lesson this Sunday will be on personal
testimonies. The lesson will be drawn from 2 conference talks: Elder Uchtdorf and Elder Hales.
