Emma's Basket - A year long service project

This year we would like to pay tribute to the first Relief Society President, Emma Smith, by participating in a year-long service project called Emma’s basket. Each month we will ask for a specific item to be donated and placed in Emma’s basket, which will be located outside of the Relief Society room.

For the next 6 months we will be collecting school supplies for Granite School District Title 1 schools. Title 1 schools have students at risk of failure and living at or near poverty. (For example, Kearns Jr. High has 80% of their students living below poverty, with parents either on drugs or in jail.)

In July, we will meet as a Relief Society to put the collected items into backpacks to donate to these schools for students who are unable to purchase school supplies for themselves.

List of monthly items to be donated:

January – Snow Boots any size and gender

February- Colored pencil sets

March- Pencils with erasers

April - Individual White boards (check the dollar store)

May- folders with pockets

June- Incentive prizes: Any incentive prizes that can be used to help increase positive behavior- (little toys, stickers, etc)

**In July we will begin collecting for a different organization**
